Greg Wood
In
1993 I left a career in aviation to pursue my dream to be a custom
woodworker. I bought a farm on Dutch Lake, forty miles west of Mpls.,
MN, and converted the sixty year old dairy barn into my workshop.
This is where my best selling line of outdoor furniture, "
The Dutch Lake line" originated.
I still enjoy building my Dutch Lake line today but get very excited
about designing and building commissioned pieces such as dining
tables, chairs and beds. Commissioned work allows me to design one-of-a-kind
pieces for my customers.
I begin with design sketches on paper and a scale model for my
clients' feedback and approval. A prototype is the next step for
a chair design to ensure customer's comfort. Then the piece is crafted
by hand with traditional joinery; mortise and tenon and dovetails.
The lumber is hand chosen to enhance the expression of the piece
by careful selection wood grain. Finally the piece is given a durable
high quality finish.
My customers feel that the combination of expert woodworking and
unique design guarantee them that their piece is definitely a future
heirloom.
The lasting permanence of my work and the satisfaction of my customers
is motivating and makes my work a passion and a true privilege rather
than just a routine for survival.
